Iceberg lettuce was introduced in California ( USA ) under the name ” Iceberg ” in the beginning of the 20th century. This name was given because for transport by train from the west to the east coast a berg of ice was put on the lettuce for better shelflife . The leaves are light green in color and often slightly translucent . The leaves form a closed head , the edges can be set curly but may also tight around his crop ‘folded’ .
